I love Shetland for shawls. It has just enough halo to looks soft, yet has gorgeous stitch definition and blocks beautifully! Look at this edging:

Wound up this skein of Madelinetosh Merino Lite yesterday and started a little eyelet yoke baby cardigan:

The colorway is “Molly Ringwald”…doesn’t get much more girly than that, eh?

I am off to a legal seminar for the next few days. No spinning, but plenty of knitting time.

Spinning wheel-spinning round-talk about your lover, it’s a crying shame-ride a painted pony let the spinning wheel spin.

I have been spinning pretty much non-stop since the wheel arrived on Monday afternoon.  Three of the four 4oz. merino tops I dyed are now spun up.

The dark blue one was my first attempt at Navajo plying with the wheel.  It actually seems harder with the wheel than with the drop spindle, but I think that is because I just don’t have much control over speed with the wheel yet.  As a consequence, I ended up with about 90 yards of tightly coiled, somewhat lumpy bulky yarn.  After I set the twist though, I liked it much better. It almost looks and feels like a thick chenille.

Last night I plied the singles from the pink & grey roving and this morning I wound the yarn off the bobbin onto the niddy-noddy.  150 yards of mostly dk/sport weight.  I will have to check the wpi’s, but this is by far the most yarn I have managed to spin from a single top/roving.  This yarn has beret written all over it.  I am plum tickled with how it turned out!

Prior to the wheel’s arrival, I did manage to finish a wip.  Here is the adorable baby sweater I knit for Lake’s cousin’s baby.  The baby is due on the 14th and is a girl.  First confirmed girl in a while and I was itching for the chance to knit a “girl” gift.  The turned up picot hem on the sleeves and skirt hem is really cute and makes for a very finished look.  I need to get it in the mail today!

Off to order some more undyed wool!
